Search and Replace Feature:

The shortcut key for the Find and Replace dialog box is Ctrl + H.

When copying text from the Web and the formatting goes wrong here is what you do.

  • Copy the text.
  • Paste it into Word.
  • Turn on the paragraph marks in Word by pressing Ctrl + * (you need to hold the Shift key down too). You then see dots for spaces, arrows for tabs and ¶
  • If there is a group of spaces (shown as dots) on the left hand side, highlight them as shown in the example below

  • Copy and paste this into the replace box shown above where it says tennis, and use the Tab key to go to the box below. Make sure there is nothing there then click on Replace all.
  • Now to get rid of the paragraph marks at the end of every row: first we have to do the real paragraphs so in the Find box enter ^p^p, (make sure you delete out whatever else was there before first – the blanks are still there, they just don’t show up) then in the replace box enter *, press Replace All.
  • Now in the Find box type ^p, and in the Replace box press the Space bar once only. Click on Replace All.
  • Next, in the Find box type * then in the Replace box type ^p^p, then Replace All. The document should now look normal.
